MyVoice write or wrong? received many excellent applications – thanks to everyone who applied! We were only able to award nine bursaries and are delighted to announce the nine MyVoice Bursary winners and their mentors:
- Maryam (18) from Birmingham is interested in journalism, poetry and short stories. She will be mentored by performance poet Akala.
- Saida (15) from Blackburn is interested in poetry. She will be mentored by poet Daljit Nagra.
- Kerry (17) from Bradford is interested in fiction, journalism and short stories. She will be mentored by short story writer/novelist Qaisra Shahraz.
- O’Neall (16) from Leicester is interested in poetry. He will be mentored by children’s author Bali Rai.
- Entela (17) from Luton is interested in short stories. She will be mentored by published author Preethi Nair.
- Ahlyah (14) from Luton is interested in fiction and poetry. She will be mentored by broadcaster and journalist Hardeep Singh Kohli.
- Afshan (17) from Manchester is interested in fiction, plays and poetry. She will be mentored by journalist Robin Yassin-Kassab.
- Grace (18) from Slough is interested in fiction, journalism, poetry and short stories. She will be mentored by broadcaster and journalist Hardeep Singh Kohli.
- Saima (14) from Waltham Forest is interested in plays. She will be mentored by producer and memoirist Yasmin Hai.
As we did not receive enough applications from Tower Hamlets, the judges were unable to award a bursary to a young person in this area, but they did decide to award an additional bursary in Luton due to the high quality of work submitted.
MyVoice on groupthing
If you're interested in writing and want to share your work with other writers, you might be interested in joining groupthing. groupthing is an online community for young people around reading, words and creativity. It’s a place where you can post your creative work, chat and review what you are reading, listening to, watching and playing, create groups and meet other young people as well as professional artists.
The MyVoice Bursary winners and their mentors will be using their groupthing group to share their reading and writing experiences.
